A WEEKLY WORD FROM THE REV. People sometimes say to me "Does God still speak today?" Let me give you an example. Once our church had a weekend away in some stupid field. (It wasn't my idea.) In the next-door tent to us there was a charming Californian woman. She wore an enormous purple fur hat and was not afraid to express her personality through the medium of smell. One morning we were down by the riverside singing hymns about God's lovely water and trying to baptize passing scouts, when she came up to me. "Tell me, Reverend," she said, "do you think God still speaks today?" Well, I gave her the same answer that I will give you now. I said, "Yes, of course I do." After all, if God didn't talk today, what would be the point? Now say this prayer: Thank you, Lord, for being nice. Help me to be as good at hearing you as my Father in the faith, Rev. Gerald Ambulance. Help me not to hear anything that he wouldn't agree with. Amen. For further reading: Look up all the things that God says in the Bible.
